- Artist Statement -



Nikolas Bùi Rồng (previously known as Nikolas Ryan) is an emerging new media artist. He is currently pursuing an MA in the National College of Ireland. He also holds a BA in Fine Art (Media) and Critical Cultures, with a First-Class Honours and a highly commended thesis.

Inspired by his experiences as a trans person of colour and artists like Moreshin Allahyari and Danielle Braithwaite-Shirley, he uses emerging technologies to archive Trans experiences.
His practice is heavily research-driven with a particular interest in Philosophy and Queer rights. His theorethical framework centers around counter-archive/anarchive.
His artistic approach is multidisciplinary, experimenting with 2D/3D animation, gamification, sound, video, 3D printing, installation, AR, and VR.

Following,exhibiting his grad show work at the RDS Visual Art Awards in IMMA 2023, he returned to IMMA in 2025 for Living Canvas at IMMA. He also exhibited at the BETA Festival 2024 in the NCAD Gallery and is a recipient of the Agility Award 2024 from Arts Council Ireland.
