Transition To Transcendence (2023)

Artist Statement

'Transition To Transcendence' is an interactive, immersive installation that blends Virtual Reality with personal narrative. Stemming from the artist’s personal experience with Evangelical Queer Conversion Therapy through the lens of Biopolitics, examining the link between conditionded beliefs and systemic opression.


Inspired by combining Conversion Therapy techniques such as Ericksonian hypnosis with virtual reality—the viewer is invited to participate in a meditative journey where they encounter three 3D models of the artist’s chest, reflecting his beliefs regarding his chest at various stages of his transition.

Utilsing emerging technology to combine religious symbolism and the artist’s trans experience, this work indulges the possibility of gender transcendence.
